Meet Alice, our Innovation Intern!

She has just wrapped up an incredible 6-month placement with our Innovation Team, and we took the opportunity to ask her some questions about her time here, as well as ask her for some advice for those at a similar stage in their career.
How did you hear about the internship?
Jeanette Newcombe and Holly Hocking, Innovation and Digital Design Studio Managers came to my university and hosted a talk about Anstey Wallpaper Company. They discussed British Manufacturing and industry opportunities for students looking to carve a path in interiors.
The Innovation Internship came up and I applied!
What does your role entail on a daily basis?
As part of the innovation team in the studio I am often colour matching prospective fabric designs onto wallpaper using AVA, experimenting with designs on different wallpaper substrates, looking at current trends and market research, screen printing, and general studio tasks.
What have you learnt during your placement?
As my first placement experience, I have learnt how to do basic everyday tasks such as workload management and team communication, but also more industry specific skills, such as using AVA software and thinking about the end consumer.
I have also learned in depth about the different printing processes, substrates, machinery, market etc.
What will you take away from your industry placement?
So much. I have worked in an amazing team who have made the last six months a fantastic experience, I have also gained lots of new skills which I will directly apply to my final year of university.
What tips could you give to any aspiring creative student looking to get into the industry?
To be actively looking for opportunities and to make yourself well knowledged of the industry you want to get into.
If you are a student, then utilise the resources the university offers and take every opportunity to meet or speak to people within the industry.
We’re wishing Alice all the best as she heads back to Loughborough University to complete her final year of studies!
